We did a quick Q&A with Dakota Criqui, Product Engineer at New Age Industrial. We asked him several questions about customizing products with us and the Engineering Team’s role in our flexible manufacturing process.
What types of products do people customize?
You can customize any type of product, from Food Service to Material handling. If you have an idea, we can turn that idea into a reality and design pretty much anything out of aluminum.
What are the advantages of customizing products vs purchasing standard catalog items?
A customized product will fit the exact specifications based on each individual customer’s needs or applications.
How is engineering involved in the customization process?
As an engineer, it’s our job to gather all the necessary information for each custom project. We work directly with reps and dealers throughout the custom quoting process. Once we’ve gathered the information required to quote, we use our aluminum manufacturing experience to design and quote the best product possible for each project.
Does it take a long time to customize a product?
Not all customizations are created equal. Some requests are just simple modifications to an existing product, so the turnaround time is generally quicker. Other projects may require a custom design from scratch and are usually much more involved and tend to take a little longer. We have multiple engineers on staff, and we pride ourselves on setting the industry standard for quoting and manufacturing custom products as quickly as possible.
What’s the coolest product you have ever designed?
A freeze-drying cabinet. It started as a standard cabinet and progressed into a very custom design. I worked directly with the end user and designed the cabinet to meet their exact freeze-drying specifications. It ended up turning into over a million-dollar account. To me, that’s very satisfying when you design a product that’s essential to the growth and productivity of any customer.
If someone wants to customize a product, how do they get started?
The easiest way to get started would be to check out our website. You can click on any of our industries, and we have a “Get custom quote” tab available. All you need to do is enter information into each field and submit the request. There is also a “find a rep” tab on the website. Just go through the drop-down menus and choose your industry, country and state, and it will list contact information for the rep in your area. We have rep groups located all over the country and in Canada. Our reps are very knowledgeable about customization and New Age’s manufacturing capabilities. We also have an entire staff of sales and engineering employees that would be happy to take your call or email on any custom requests.
