What types of products do people customize?
A variety of items from small supply boxes on carts to the complete cart or rack.
What are the advantages of customizing products vs purchasing standard catalog items?
To make the item better fit your operation and get the best return out of your investment. When we design a product for a customer, we try to put ourselves in the users shoes. What will help that user do their job better and be more efficient?
How is engineering involved in the customization process?
The amount of involvement varies depending on the complexity of the customization. From the start, we try to round up as much information as possible, down to the finest details of how the item is being used. So when we come back with the design, the customer can see themselves using it and improving their operation.
Does it take a long time to customize a product? Is it easy?
We try to make the process quick and easy for the customer by gathering all the proper information up front, then going to work behind the scenes to make it a reality.
What’s the coolest product you have ever designed?
There have been so many that were fun and exciting. It is hard to choose! I guess I would choose the put wall system that had 20 pick/put bins on the cart and a parking module for the cart. It had a pick-to-light system to guide the user to put the item in the correct cart bin.
