Below we will discuss some of the most common shelving types and why they are used.

 

Before we get into shelving categories, let’s discuss the individual types of shelves offered for shelving units. Heavy Duty (HD) Shelves are the most vital shelf type featuring thick slats that run lengthwise across the shelf. They are great for storing large, heavy items. T-Bar shelves consist of flat slats on top with a t-shape for strength. The runners span from front to back across the depth of the shelf. T-Bar shelves are great for small boxes and medium-sized products. There are also two common solid shelf-type options that are great for individual loose items. Solid shelving features a marine edge that contains moisture from spills, and solid brute shelf types have a removable top that nests over a frame. The top can be easily removed for easy cleaning or replaced at any time.

Adjustable Shelving is comprised of four posts and your shelving of choice. It’s shipped knocked down and assembled by the user. As its name suggests, the shelf placement can be set and adjusted anytime. Different types of shelving can be mixed and matched to fit individual needs. One unit might contain an HD shelf on the bottom, a T-bar shelf in the middle and a solid shelf on the top. Adjustable shelving is available in a wide range of depths and widths and has a weight capacity of 400 to 2,000 pounds.

 

Cantilever Shelving can be adjusted like adjustable shelving but requires no tools. Lift the shelf out of the lift and lock clips. Then move it to any level or section within the unit and engage it into the lift and lock clips. Cantilever shelving has no front posts, maximizing the overall storage space and allowing for long shelving runs. It makes storing long, bulky items a breeze. Cantilever shelving units are available in free-standing and ceiling-mounted styles, which are great for freeing up floor space in areas such as walk-in coolers or freezers. They are available in 18 to 24” depths with widths up to 60” and a weight capacity of up to 900 pounds per shelf.

 

Wall Shelving is an ideal solution for maximizing unused vertical space. It’s mounted directly to the wall or brackets with no supports going to the floor. Wall shelving is versatile because it can be placed anywhere on a wall to fulfill a specific purpose. Find the studs, hang them up, and you’ll have a strong shelf that will last a lifetime. Some wall shelves are even inverted with the shelf at the bottom and mount at the top, which is reversed from the standard placement, for use above appliances or hard-to-reach places.

 

Keg Shelving is very similar to adjustable shelving, but it’s bulkier and comes in larger sizes, giving it a greater weight capacity and more space to store kegs. Keg shelving comes in single-deep and double-deep sizing, depending on how many kegs deep you would like to store. Optional u-braces eliminate the need for an additional shelf, keeping floors clear and maintaining overall stability. Other optional shelving accessories include 18” shelving with extended sides for smaller top shelves, an EZ mount panel for mounting regulators, and solid removable tops for small item storage.

 

All Welded Shelving is built to last. Shelf types can be mixed and matched to fit specific storage needs. Because it’s fully welded, shelves are incredibly durable but not adjustable. Units ship fully assembled and ready to go. All welded shelving is ideal for fixed storage solutions where modularity is not a priority. Mobile – Adjustable and all welded shelving can easily be made into mobile shelving units by adding casters. This is a great option for storage that needs to be frequently reconfigured or for an easy, picking cart solution. All welded shelving allows for the use of more durable plate casters.
